Tell us your story is a project collecting tales of being a tent in the PRS (private rented sector) in Hackney.
We don't think the council knows or understands the scale of the problem and we want to create a dossier of real experiences to help get the council to understand. Renting is not a stop gap to owning, it is for a large majority of tenants, access to a home. Homes are for everyone not just the rich. you should not need to have relatives with large reserves of cash to have a home for yourself and your family. The council cannot control the free market which central government has let rule our lives and therefore choose who has houses and who doesn't. But they can help those without access to large amounts of capital and give them access to secure affordable housing by creating and enforcing rights that protect them.
We will be presenting our dossier to the council on 26th April at Hackney Town Hall 12pm.
